Cowgirls Open Road Trip With Victory

Missoula, Montana -- The Wyoming Volleyball Team (8-3 overall) began their four match road trip with a three game victory (30-17, 30-20, 33-31) over the Montana Grizzlies (5-6 overall) on Thursday night in Missoula.
Wyoming started off the match a little slow with the two teams trading points in the early going. Montana gained an 8-6 advantage, but the Cowgirls responded with a 6-1 run to take their first lead of the game, 12-9. That margin only expanded after the Grizzlies scored a point, UW turned it on with 12 straight points to go up 22-10. Montana continued to battle with four points of their own, but it was all Wyoming as they closed out the game on an 8-3 run to win the first game 30-17.
Montana rebounded by taking a 7-1 advantage to start the second game, but four straight from the Cowgirls pulled them to within two. The Grizzlies maintained a two or three point lead until UW eventually tied it up at 11 all and took their first lead of the game 14-12. After scoring the next seven of 11 points the Wyoming lead would grow to five points, 21-16. It was an advantage they'd never relinquish as they won the game, 30-20, and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
After the Cowgirls opened up the game with the first couple of points, Montana responded with an
8-1 run to take a five point lead, 8-3. UW answered right back with five straight to even things up at eight. The game remained close, but the Grizzlies continued to maintain that lead which again grew to five points, 18-13. Down 19-15, the Cowgirls scored four straight points to tie the score at 20 all. From that point it was a battle until Montana took a 26-23 lead. A 6-2 run from the Cowgirls allowed them to take their first lead of the game 29-28, The Grizzlies scored two, which gave them game point, but the Cowgirls hung on to pull out the 33-31 win to take the match 3-0.
Wyoming was led by freshman Andrea Seele, who finished the night with a career high 16 kills and a .652 (16-1-23) hitting percentage. Michele Rauter and Sara Maytorena hit double-figures in digs with 20 and ten respectively. As a team, the Cowgirls hit .376 (51-16-93) and had 52 digs compared to 24 from the Grizzlies.
The Cowgirls will continue their road trip by traveling to Bozeman to participate in the Wingate Invitational. They will open up against the Montana State Lady Cats tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m., and then have two matches, on Saturday, against Marquette and Gonzaga.
