LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Wyoming volleyball team (4-5 overall) came up short in their second match of the Idaho State Classic with a three game loss (30-26, 30-24, 30-17) to the New Mexico State Aggies, on Friday night, in Pocatello, Idaho.

The Cowgirls stayed close in the first two games, 30-26, 30-24, but New Mexico State would dominate in the third game 30-19 to improve their record to 7-1 overall. They will face Idaho State tomorrow night in their final match of the tournament.

For the second night in a row, senior Sara Maytorena led the way for the Cowgirls. She finished the night with 13 kills, six digs, four total blocks and hit .294 (13-3-34) for the match. Middle blocker Lauren Scott chipped in eight kills, and libero Rachael Booth had a team high 15 digs. As a team, Wyoming struggled finishing the match with a .197 (43-19-122) hitting percentage, while being out blocked 12 to 7.5

The Aggies were led by outside hitter Stevi Adams, who recorded a match high 20 kills, along with 12 digs and a .457 (20-4-35) hitting percentage. Alice Borden finished the match with 14 kills, while Briana Akrie tallied 22 digs. New Mexico State hit .316 (54-17-117) for the match.

"We struggled with our serve/receive game tonight," said head coach Pat Stangle. "We didn't pass well and our serving game didn't put any pressure on them. The match was a pass and serve battle and New Mexico State was better in the end.

"It was one of those matches that we were searching for someone to step up, but it was really difficult to get a consistent line-up in this match," he added. "As a team, we proved that we can win at home, and the first night on the road, unfortunately we've struggled on the next night on the road so we need to get refocused and concentrate on tomorrow night's match."

The Cowgirls will wrap up tournament play tomorrow night as they face the Gonzaga Bulldogs beginning at 4:30 p.m.
