The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team (10-6 overall, 1-1 MW) earned their first conference win with a three set victory (25-20, 25-23, 25-10) over the Air Force Academy Falcons (3-12 overall, 0-2 MW), on Saturday afternoon, in Laramie.

"A win is a win and I'll take our first conference victory any day of the week," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "Anytime you play Air Force, they are coming in to play to win. We need to have that same momentum and energy when we play any conference opponent. Air Force came out and gave us a run. They played hard and did some nice things. It was good to see our team battle back and come away with a victory."

Junior outside hitter Jodi Purdy led the way with 13 kills and ten digs. She was followed by Camille Coffman with eight kills and five total blocks and Erin Kirby with eight kills and six blocks. The Cowgirls hit .252 (44-17-107) for the match and out blocked the Falcons 8-4.

Air Force was led by Cami Richan with ten kills and a .345 (10-0-29) hitting percentage. Claire Bieber added six kills and three block assists. The Falcons hit .069 (26-19-101) for the match.

Air Force opened up the match by scoring the first five points. The Cowgirls scored three straight to pull within two, 5-3. The Falcons answered with a 5-3 run to extend the lead back to four, 10-6. Wyoming chipped away at the lead and made it a one point set, 13-12. Air Force scored three of four to make it 16-13, but the Cowgirls responded with a 6-1 run to take their first lead, 19-17. The Falcons scored the next two points to end the run and even the score up at 19. Wyoming ran off the final six of seven to win the first set, 25-20.

The teams battled back and forth early in the second set until the Falcons took a four point lead, 8-4. Wyoming would score the next point to end the run, but Air Force increased their lead to seven, 15-8. An Erin Kirby kill stopped the Falcons but again the Cowgirls couldn't make a dent in the Air Force lead. With the score 21-14 in favor of the Falcons, Wyoming ran off nine straight points to gain a 23-21 advantage. The Falcons evened it back up at 23, which was answered with the final two points by the Cowgirls to give them the set, 25-23.

The Cowgirls carried the momentum over in the third set as they opened up a 9-4 lead. They would extend it to double-figures, 17-5, with an 8-1 run. It was never close after that as Wyoming won the set 25-10 and the match 3-0.

Wyoming returns to Mountain West play on the road next week. They will travel to take on the San Diego State Aztecs, on Thursday, Sept. 29, followed by the UNLV Rebels, on Saturday, Oct. 1.
