LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Outside hitter Jodi Purdy represented the Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball program at the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team Open Tryouts, Feb. 25-27, in Colorado Springs.
"This was an excellent opportunity for Jodi to compete with some of the best volleyball athletes in the country," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "I know this experience will be one that will help her develop stronger leadership skills as well as challenge her physically. I am very proud of her."
Purdy was among a record number of 204 athletes to participate in the open tryouts for the U.S. Women's National Team, U.S. Women's National A2 program and U.S. Women's Junior National Team. Of the 204 tryout participants representing 81 different colleges were 56 outside hitters, 51 middle blockers, 46 liberos, 27 setters and 24 opposites.
The U.S. Women's National Team coaching staff, including head coach Hugh McCutcheon (Christchurch, New Zealand) and assistant coaches Karch Kiraly (San Clemente, Calif.) and Paula Weishoff (Irvine, Calif.), led the evaluation oversight process.
A First Team All-Conference selection in 2010, Purdy started in all 31 matches for the Cowgirls, while playing in 109 sets last season. She averaged a team leading 3.21 kills and 3.95 points, while adding 2.61 digs. In conference matches, she averaged 3.16 kills, 2.93 digs and 3.82 points per set.
