LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Second year head coach Pat Stangle and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team will open up with their first practice of the 2005 pre-season on Tuesday, August 9th at 9:00 a.m., in the UniWyo Sports Complex. Stangle welcomes back three starters and seven letterwinners from the 2004 squad.

"Our focus from the beginning of practice will be to improve daily," said Stangle. "With a relatively young team, we'll need to stress the things we can control and not worry about the things that don't matter. If we can do that, we have a chance to make good progress this season and continue to move forward as a program."

The Cowgirls' first practice will begin on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Regular weekday practices will mainly run Monday through Friday from 9:00-12:00 and 3:00-5:00 p.m., and 10:00-12:00 on Saturday's. All practices are open. Coach Stangle and a few Cowgirl players will be available at media day from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m., on Friday, August 12. For regular practice times during the season, please contact Amy Dambro, 766-2256.

The Cowgirls, who finished 13-14 overall and 6-8 in the Mountain West Conference, will open up the 2005 volleyball season on the road, Friday and Saturday, August 26-27, as they face Gardner-Webb and Montana State at the University of Washington Husky Challenge in Seattle, Wash. They will begin play at home by hosting the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic, Thursday, Friday and Saturday September 1-3 in Laramie, with matches against Boise State and Northern Colorado. Mountain West Conference play will kick off, Thursday, Sept. 22 and 24 on the road against UNLV and San Diego State.
