UW Volleyball To Host Second Straight Tournament, The UniWyo Cowgirl Invite

The Cowgirl Volleyball Team will stay at home this week as they host the UniWyo Cowgirl Invite, Friday-Saturday, September 4-5. They will start things off on Friday, September 4, against the Montana State Bobcats at 10 a.m. and the North Dakota Fighting Sioux at 7 p.m. They will wrap things up against the Fresno State Bulldogs on the following night at 7 p.m. to close out the weekend.

Wyoming enters the week with a 2-1 (.667) record overall after three matches last weekend at the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic. The Cowgirls are currently led by freshman outside hitter Jodi Purdy who is averaging 3.18 kills, which is fifth in the league, and 2.55 digs per set. She is followed Camille Coffman and Lauren Whitney who are each adding two kills per set while Coffman is averaging 1.27 blocks per set. As a team, they are averaging 11.82 kills, 13.36 digs and 11.36 assists per set.
The Cowgirls will open up against the Montana State Bobcats, on Friday, Sept. 4. They are currently 0-3 coming in to the weekend, and are led by Taylar Barney who is averaging 2.10 kills and 1.50 digs per set. MSU returns four starters and nine letterwinners on a team that went 3-23 overall and 0-16 in the Big Sky Conference a year ago. This is the 17th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 9-7. The last time the two teams met the Bobcats defeated the Cowgirls 3-2. Montana State is coached by Sara Schaub who is in her second year with the program.
In their second match of the weekend, Wyoming will play the North Dakota Fighting Sioux, on Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. They will play Fresno State before taking on the Cowgirls. UND is currently 4-0 overall. They are led by Devin Trefz who is averaging 3.36 kills and 1.93 digs per set. They return all six starters and ten letterwinners to a team that went 24-8 overall. This is the first ever meeting between the two schools. UND is coached by Ashley Hardee who is in his first season with the program.
UW will close out the weekend against the Fresno State Bulldogs, on Saturday night, at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs will play Montana State and North Dakota before taking on the Cowgirls. They are currently 2-1 heading in to the weekend. The Bulldogs are led by Lacey Gera who is averaging three kills and 1.30 digs per set. Fresno State returns six starters and ten letterwinners to a team that went 7-20 overall and 3-13 in the Western Athletic Conference a year ago. This is the 18th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 10-7. The last time the two teams met was November 21, 1998 as the Cowgirls defeated the Bulldogs 3-0. Fresno State is coached by Lauren Netherby-Sewell who is in her second year with the program.
