Wyoming Volleyball Set For Long Road Trip

The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team will continue play this week as they head out for the first time on a four-match road trip. They head to DeLand, Florida for the Stetson Invitational. Wyoming will play Bethune Cookman and Wofford, Friday, Sept. 3, before taking on Florida Atlantic and Stetson the following day to close out the weekend.
Wyoming enters the week with a perfect 4-0 (1.00) record overall winning the UniWyo Wyoming Invite in Laramie. The Cowgirls are currently led by senior outside hitter Lauren Whitney who is averaging 3.08 kills, which is ninth in the league, and 1.62 digs per set. She is followed by Jodi Purdy who is adding 2.77 kills and 2.69 digs while JennaRae Jester is averaging a team high 1.62 blocks. As a team, they are averaging 14.08 kills, 13.00 digs and 3.04 blocks per set.
They will take on the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats in the opening round of the Stetson Invitational. The Wildcats are currently 0-4 this season. They are led by Jessica Wilson who is averaging 2.21 kills and 1.79 digs per set. As a team, they are averaging ten kills per set and hitting .131 (140-81-450). BCU returns four starters and nine letterwinners on a team that went 13-15 overall and 5-3 in the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference a year ago. This is the first ever meeting between the two schools. Bethune Cookman is coached by Vanessa Cogswell who is in her seventh season with the program.
In their second match of the weekend, the Cowgirls will play the Wofford Terriers, on Friday, Sept. 3, at 3:00 p.m. MT. Wofford is currently 4-1 overall. The Terriers are led by Amanda Liguori who is averaging 2.59 kills and 1.88 digs per set. She is followed by Catelyn Amende and Melissa Kearse who are each adding 1.88 kills per set. They return four starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 18-14 overall and 5-11 in the Southern Conference a year ago. This is the first meeting ever between the two schools. Wofford is coached by Corey Helle who is in his ninth season with the program.
In their first match on Saturday, the Cowgirls will take on the Florida Atlantic Owls. FAU, who is 3-0 overall, is led by Christina Wallinger who is averaging 2.83 kills and 2.25 digs per set. The Owls are averaging 12.17 kills and 13 digs per set as a team. Florida Atlantic returns four starters and nine letterwinners to a team that went 6-20 overall and 4-13 in the Sun Belt Conference a year ago. This is the first meeting ever between the two teams. FAU is coached by Jody Brown who is in his 16th season with the program.
Wyoming will close out the weekend against the Stetson Hatters on Saturday night at 5:00 p.m. MT. Stetson is currently 0-3 overall and led by Kaley Melville who is averaging 2.60 kills and 2.60 digs per set. The Hatters return four starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 1-27 overall and 0-20 in the Atlantic Sun Conference a year ago. This is the first ever meeting between the two schools. Stetson is coached by Cheryl Carlson who is in her seventh season with the Hatters and her 14th as a head coach.
