The Wyoming volleyball team will open up 2010 Mountain West Conference play on the road this week with two matches. They will face the Utah Utes, on Thursday, Sept. 23, in Salt Lake City, followed by the BYU Cougars, on Saturday, Sept. 25, in Provo. The first match is slated for 7:00 p.m. while the second match will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Wyoming enters the week with a 14-1 (.933) record overall after going 3-0 last weekend at the Gonzaga Invitational. The Cowgirls are currently led by sophomore Jodi Purdy who is averaging 3.20, which is sixth in the league, 2.18 digs and 4.05 points per set. She is followed by Lauren Whitney who is adding 2.62 kills and 2.08 digs. JennaRae Jester is averaging a team high 1.54 blocks, while Jadranka Tramosljanin in adding 4.50 digs per set. As a team, they are averaging 13.76 kills, 13.71 digs and 2.90 blocks per set. They rank first in assists, aces, blocks, kills and opponent hitting percentage, while being second in hitting percentage.

The Utes went 5-7 overall during the non-conference season with this being their opening conference match as well. They are led by Morgan Odale who is averaging 3.34 kills and 2.52 digs per set. She is followed by Karolina Bartkowiak with 2.68 kills and 2.02 digs per set. As a team, they are averaging 12.88 kills and hitting .210 (644-266-1796). Utah returns four starters and ten letterwinners on a team that went 17-12 overall and 10-6 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago.

This is the 67th meeting between the two schools. Utah leads the series 42-24. The last time the two teams met was Nov. 14, 2009 as the Utes defeated the Cowgirls 3-0 in Salt Lake City. The Utes are coached by Beth Launiere who is in her 21st season with the program.

In their second match of the weekend, the Cowgirls will play the BYU Cougars, on Saturday, Sept. 25. The Cougars enter the week 3-9 overall and will face Colorado State on Thursday night. They are led by Jennifer Hamson who is averaging 2.96 kills and 1.16 digs per set. She is followed by Christie Carpenter who is adding 2.80 kills and 1.90 digs per set. They return five starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 15-14 overall and 9-7 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago.

This is 66th meeting between the two schools. BYU leads the series 61-4. The last time the two teams met was November 12, 2009 as the Cougars defeated the Cowgirls 3-0 in Provo. BYU is coached by Shay Goulding who is in her third season with the program.
