Wyoming Volleyball to Host a Pair of MWC Matches

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team will return home this week to host a pair of Mountain West Conference matches. They will open up against the New Mexico Lobos, on Thursday, Oct. 9, and then will play the TCU Frogs, on Saturday, Oct. 11. Both matches are set to begin at 7 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex.

Wyoming enters the week with a 3-10 (.231) record overall and a 2-2 mark in conference play after earning a four set victory over Air Force last Saturday night. The Cowgirls are currently led by outside hitter Dani Bedore who is averaging 3.06 kills, which is seventh in the MWC, and 1.62 digs per set. She is followed Lauren Whitney who is adding 2.80 kills and almost one dig per set. As a team, they are averaging 12.08 kills and 12.38 digs per set.

The Lobos enter the week 13-3 overall and 3-2 in MWC play this season. They are led by Jeanne Fairchild who is averaging 4.67 kills and 1.24 digs per set, while Anna Lehne is adding 2.13 kills and 1.24 blocks per set. UNM returns four starters and 11 letterwinners that went 16-13 overall and 7-9 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 69th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 34-24. The last time the two teams met was October 18, 2007 as the Cowgirls defeated the Lobos, 3-0, in Laramie. New Mexico is coached by Jeff Nelson who is in his second season with the program.

In their second match of the weekend, the Cowgirls will face the TCU Frogs who are 14-4 overall, 3-2 in MWC play and will face the Colorado State Rams before taking on the Cowgirls. They are led by Lauren Otto who is averaging 3.21 kills and 2.49 digs per set, while Kourtney Edwards is adding 2.57 kills and 1.14 blocks per set. TCU returns four starters and seven letterwinners that went 22-12 overall and 9-7 in the in the MWC a year ago. This is the 12th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 8-3. The last time the two teams met was October 19, 2007 as the Cowgirls defeated the Frogs, 3-1, in Laramie. TCU is coached by Prentice Lewis who is in her seventh season with the program.
