Wyoming Volleyball On The Road To Begin Second Part of MW Play

The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team will begin the second time through the conference season on the road this week. They will take on the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Thursday, October 20, and the Boise State Broncos, on Saturday, Oct. 22. The Cowgirls enter the week with a 14-8 (.636) record overall and a 4-3 (.571) mark in the Mountain West after a split against TCU and New Mexico last time out. Wyoming is currently led by Jodi Purdy who is averaging a team high 3.63 kills and 4.36 points plus 3.19 digs per set. She ranks first in service aces, third in kills and points and eighth in digs in the league. She is followed by redshirt freshman Erin Kirby who is adding 1.95 kills and 1.16 blocks, along with hitting .350 (158-39-340). Reese Plante is averaging 2.05 kills and 1.06 blocks, while Becky Stewart is leading the way with 3.82 digs per set. As a team, they are averaging 13.11 kills, 14.33 digs and 2.40 blocks per set. They rank second in blocks and hitting percentage and fourth in digs and kills.
Wyoming will begin the week against the Air Force Falcons. The Falcons are 3-17 overall and 0-7 in league play. They are led by Cami Richan who is averaging 2.89 kills and 1.91 digs per set. Air Force returns two starters and seven letterwinners who went 4-25 overall and 1-15 in the Mountain West a year ago.
This is 34th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 28-5 and has won the last 15 in a row. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 24, 2011 as the Cowgirls defeated Air Force, 3-0, in Laramie. The Falcons are coached by Matt McShane who is in his second year with the program.
The Cowgirls will close out their road trip against the Boise State Broncos, on Saturday, Oct. 22. The Broncos enter the week 12-10 overall, 3-4 in MW play and will take on CSU before facing the Cowgirls. Fiona Jones leads the way averaging 2.46 kills and 2.47 digs per set. Boise State returns five starters and nine letterwinners to a team that went 21-12 overall and 8-8 in the Western Athletic Conference a year ago.
This is the 13th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 7-5. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 22, 2011 as the Broncos defeated the Cowgirls, 3-2, in Laramie. Boise State is coached by Shawn Garus who is in his third season with the program and his 11th overall.
