Wyoming Volleyball At Home for Two Matches

The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball team will continue the second half of the conference season as they host two home matches this week. They will take on the UNLV Rebels, on Thursday, Nov. 2, and the San Diego State Aztecs, on Saturday, Nov. 4. The UNLV match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. while the SDSU match will start at 8:00 p.m.
Wyoming enters the week with an 9-12 (.429) record and 3-7 in conference play earning a split with the Air Force Academy Falcons and the CSU Rams last week. The Cowgirls are currently led by junior outside hitter Rachel Smith, who is averaging 3.68 kills, which is fourth in the MWC, and 1.90 digs per game. She is followed closely by freshman Annie Meyers who is averaging 3.01 kills and 2.84 digs on the year. As a team, they are averaging 13.96 kills, 16.00 digs and have a .184 (1117-511-3293) hitting percentage.
UNLV enters the week with a 16-8 overall record and a 7-5 in the MWC. The Rebels are led by Maria Aladjova, who is averaging 3.93 kills and 2.69 digs, and Lauren Miramontes who is averaging 2.75 kills and 1.12 blocks per game. They return five starters and nine letterwinners to a squad that went 15-15 overall and 10-6 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago. This is the 23rd meeting between the two teams. UNLV leads the series 12-10 and has won eight of the last eleven meetings. The last time the two teams met was Oct. 7, 2006 as the Rebels defeated the Cowgirls 3-0 in Las Vegas. UNLV is coached by Allison Keeley who is in her third season with the program.
San Diego State is currently 10-13 overall and 4-8 in the MWC. The Aztecs led by Melanie Greene who is averaging 3.81 kills and 2.62 digs per game along with Audra Dent who is averaging 3.29 kills per game. They return four starters and eight letterwinners to a squad that went 16-13 overall and 8-8 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago. This is the 32nd meeting between the two teams. San Diego State leads the series 26-5 and holds a 8-3 record over the last eleven matches. The last time the two teams met was Oct. 5, 2006 as the Aztecs defeated the Cowgirls 3-0 in San Diego. San Diego State is coached by Mark Warner who is in his 12th season with the program.
